Q. My hair is naturally straight and I have a hard time trying to curl it. Is there any product I can use to help get my hair curly? Lila Leon; Santa Barbara, CA
A. For the longest lasting curly effect steer clear of hairsprays and spritzes. Instead, try a heat-activated setting spray and apply it to dry hair before curling it in sections with an iron. An amazing one to try is Redken Spray Starch 15. It’s not a hairspray by any means, but a heat-sensitive styler that delivers medium control and touchably soft results. Whether your hair is super thick or baby fine, your goal is an up-do or a down-do, this is THE go-to product for all your curling needs!

I have long straight brown hair. I want to get a layered cut a perm/wave and highlights. Which should I do first? The hightlights or perm?

I have moved from Tucson,AZ, to College Station, TX., and cannot find a stylist who can perm my old, white hair so that the curl stays in the way your stylist, Tara at the shop on Campbell St., did in Tucson. She used heat-treated techniques during several parts of the process. I know your train your stylists and was wondering if you can tell me if you know anyone in College Station, or Bryan TX who would use the same techniques. I can also drive to Cauldwell or Navasota Tx. I am 78 and have had two perms here at different salons and both lasted about a week. Many thanks….wish I still were in Tucson. Ann
