Q. What are the best cuts for thick, naturally wavy hair that a) look professional b) go from office to night and c) are EASY to style if you don’t have time? Vanessa Gorden; Lincoln, NE
A. When it comes to the best and easiest styles for this hair type, a lot depends on just how thick and wavy a texture we’re talking about. For wavy hair that’s not excessively thick or frizzy, a one-length bob that just misses the shoulder can be versatile and low maintenance. If the hair is extremely thick, you might want to wear it a bit longer and add some long layers to make it easier to manage. A good styling cream, like Regis designLINE Curl Lock Curl Intensifier, can help smooth and define waves while controlling the frizz to create a more polished (aka “professional”) look.

i’m 5’5″ and 10lbs overweight. My hair is thick and course. My hair tends to clump in thick waves when it is cut short. I love short (easy) hair. what would better suit my hair type and body type?
I love the idea about having it a bit longer w/ some long layers. I’m over 50 & would also like a bit of asymmetrical textured bangs brushed to the side to frame & accentuate my face instead of having it long and heavy around my face dragging down my features. Is this possible and do you have any examples so I can show my stylist. She keeps insisting for me to keep my hair short–no longer than chin length.
I have thick, wavy and tends to be very frizzy in the heat and humidity which down in Florida could be a big problem. I am 5’2″ over 50 and I’m sick of wearing my hair in a ponytail. Do you think I could wear a style like Lisa Rinna?
Hi Wendy,
Wispy side-swept bangs would certainly reduce the “weight” and be a flattering face-framing tactic to explore with your stylist.
We like Christina Ricci’s new softer look.

Hi Lisa,
Thick wavy hair should not prevent you from wearing a layered shag cut like Lisa Rinna.
Be sure to discuss thoroughly with your stylist first. A good consultation makes for great results.
You will need some weapons to combat that humidity and frizz.
DESIGNLINE Frizz Free Serum is a great choice to seal out humidity. Joico Design Collection Humidity Blocker is a terrific product also.
Good luck with your new style!

Lisa, I can relate with you, the only difference is the fact that I am 14, 5’1, and my hair is halfway down my back. It may not be thick, but my stylist says I sure have alot of it. Everyday I straighten my hair not only because it is the style in highschool, but also because my hair just does not seem to want to calm down and not be so frizzy! I can’t find any products and my parents have bought every single product out there for me.. I want to change my style!
