Q. What’s the best way to trim my own bangs? Kate Graff; Seal Beach, CA
A. Two major rules of thumb: Take caution and, remember, less is more. Start by using small scissors, like the ones you find in a manicure kit. Next, style your bangs like you would normally wear them and section them in half horizontally. If you section them and pick them up horizontally prior to trimming, you’ll create a softer finish. Snip away a little at a time (it’s the best way to prevent mistakes), then finish the remaining section in the same manner. If this seems a little too technical for your skill level, call your local salon or just drop in. Many pros charge about $5 for a bang trim. Plus, you’ll be guaranteed a great result without the fear or anxiety that comes with DIY jobs.
