Q. Is it possible for people with really thin hair to have hair extensions that will not show through the natural hair? Kadie Parks; Goldsboro, NC
A. There is hope! Here’s the skinny on extensions: Bonded extensions, like SoCap USA keratin bonds, last the longest (3-6 months), but the key to achieving natural looking results is to have them applied specifically under the back crown and below the parietal ridge—the round part of your head above your ears. For a more temporary fix you can also choose to have extensions glued onto your natural hair. They usually last one to two weeks and the placement is the same as the bonded variety. Keep in mind, though, they require more maintenance due to the fact they have to be applied and removed twice a month. An even lower maintenance, and quicker, option is clip-in extensions that you can attach by yourself at home and place exactly where you need them most—which explains why they are a major trend right now.

How can you thicken your hair without expensive extensions?
If the issue is ‘thinning’ hair try Nioxin System 1; a three part system that starts working at the root of the problem (your scalp). It creates a healthy scalp environment with essential oils,’ and special anti-oxidants.
If you’re looking to temporarily plump up limp hair test drive TIGI Catwalk You Highness Elevating Shampoo and Conditioner. Its formula contains Lavender, Wisteria, Jasmine & Violet which creates a light-weight finish. Follow with a style creme-thickener like Sebastian Potion 9. I have many clients who swear by each of them.
my hair is baby fine and is thicker close to the head and thins as it grows,my hair only grows to the top of my shoulders and stops. Any solutions? Im open to suggestions, thankyou for your time.
Julie: when your hair stops at a certain length (always) it’s a sign that the hair cannot maintain a proper protein or nutrient balance. We find this most often with baby-fine hair. First, invest in a good protein-rich conditioner–don’t worry, it won’t weigh your hair down as long as you concentrate it on your ends. Next, a multi-vitamin for hair, skin & nails. And finally, picking a shorter ‘do will make your hair appear much thicker and bulkier than a long cut.
P.S. I almost forgot to metion! When hair stops growing at a certain length it’s most likely caused by the ends breaking, which is why you never see it get past a certain length. The protein and muti-vitamins will help to strengthen and keep it from breaking further.
