Q. I recently went for quite a short cut and am not sure how to go about growing it out and keeping it healthy? Loana Colpitts, Colpitts Settlement, NB
A. Believe it or not, the best way to grow out a short cut while keeping hair healthy is with regular trims. Hair grows, on average, ½ an inch a month. For optimum health, hair should be trimmed every six to eight weeks. In order to add length without the risk of split ends, let your stylist know you want to grow out your current style, then have him or her trim no more than ¼ inch of hair at each visit. While your hair is growing, research magazines for your next desired look and show a picture of it to your stylist as soon as possible so he or she can begin to shape the hair in that direction. If you keep up with your regularly scheduled appointments, the transition from short to long(er) is sure to be a quick, easy and healthy one.
