Q. If I curl my hair and spray it with hairspray, it falls within two hours. How do I get it to stay styled for longer? Andrea Scruggs, Mabelvale, AR
A. For longer lasting coils try using a product specifically designed for heat-setting curls. Redken Spray Starch 15 Heat Memory Styler is heat-activated and forms beautiful curls that feel soft and touchable. Just spray on a section of dry hair and curl. It’s also great for crimping and adds humidity resistance. Or, reserve the hairspray for merely finishing your style. For heavier or dense hair textures you’ll want a product with a firmer hold, like Redken Hot Sets 22 Thermal Setting Mist. I use this priming spray for my “special occasion” clients who require the aggressive hold factor necessary for weddings or proms.

I am in my sixties and have always had long dark hair. However it is
now growing through grey especially at the front and I do not like the contrast between the two and I also dislike older people who keep their grey hair dark when they are older, also I am quite fair skinned. I don’t know quite what it ask the hairdresser to do I thought tint the grey roots a lighter colour than my own dark hair and put highlights in the rest until the hair turns completely grey. I am dreading going what I used to call when I was young the ‘ginger cat’ look – I do not want a red tinge. I thought a dark beige would suit me. I am going to ask for a layered cut as my hair is fine. What would you suggest?
