Q. What effect does hard water have on hair and what changes can be made to correct it? Ramona Brown; Alexandria, VA

A. Very hard water, like well water, can be full of minerals that deposit into the hair over time. You can often smell and feel it and sometimes even see it (hair may, for example, take on an orange or even green cast). To reverse the problem, ask your stylist for a “Malibu MakeOver” treatment. This simple, two-step service washes damaging minerals from the hair then infuses it with vitamins and proteins necessary to restore hair to its best shape possible. I recommend it three to four times a year to maintain optimum hair health.
