Q. What is the best color of highlights for black hair (that won’t make them look orange)? Stephanie Perez; Navasota, TX
A. When highlighting naturally black locks or strands that have been artificially colored black, the hair will go through several stages of “lifting” which is what the professionals call “exposing underlying pigment”. That’s generally when you start to see orange emerge. This is perfectly normal. Your stylist will then apply a second coat of color—known as a toner—that’s either “warm” or “cool” based. A cooler toner (which is what I recommend for very dark haired clients) will offset any orange hues and transform them into more a preferable chestnut or cool brown that will compliment your raven locks beautifully.

Would red highlights work on black dyed hair?
I just dyed my hair black, but now its too dark and i was wondering what would be best to highlight it?
lighter? or darker?
Angel: in lieu of highlighting, it might be a better idea to have the entire color lightened, just a shade up. If more dimension is what you crave, after going up a shade, then have soft highlights in a light brown or red color place subtley all around. When you highlight black hair (because of the super strong pigment) it tends to lighten very spotty. And the leopard print look should stay in your wardrobe, not on your hair. Good Luck!
I have a question I black hair never dyed it but I plan to but I dnt know which color would look good
