There are so many flat irons on the market today, so how do you choose? Here are a few things to consider:
Metal vs. ceramic: In my opinion, high quality ceramic irons are best for all hair types because they generate negative ions that smooth and protect the hair cuticle, delivering silky, straight results without damaging your hair the way cheaper metal irons or aluminum coated with a ceramic material can (and often will).
Price: Buy cheap and you (unfortunately) get cheap. Lower end irons tend to break down more quickly and often don’t come with any service guarantees. My personal favorite, CHI ceramic irons, come with a one-year warranty (after which, repairs have cost me just $15 to fix—that beats buying a whole new tool!)
Damage: Frequent use of any heated styling appliance can damage the hair, so limit your straightening when possible, protect locks before each ironing with a thermal styling product (I like Matrix Sleek.look Iron Smoother) and add a weekly conditioning treatment to your hair care routine to keep hair gorgeous and healthy.

I use a straighter every day and am definitely going to start using a thermal styling product.
