Blockbuster Hair: The stars of spring’s most anticipated movies have the most talked-about styles. Carlton Hair Creative Director James O’Regan tells you how to get these looks.
Ryan Reynolds
Green Lantern, June 17
As a comic-book hero (and in real life) Reynolds sports a classic cut that’s fuller on the top and sides and not overly barbered. To get it, ask for layers that aren’t too short, with the longest ones at the front. Then apply a small amount of American Crew Forming Cream to damp hair and blow dry. To finish, separate a few pieces with your fingers and work through a dab of Sebastian Craft Clay, twisting each section as you go.

Robert Pattinson
Water for Elephants, April 22
Pattinson, who plays a circus veterinarian in the novel-based drama, wears a traditional cut with a strong shape. Cropped short in the back and on the sides with a square top, the cut is best for medium to fine hair, O’Regan says. To style, dry hair thoroughly, then apply Regis DESIGNLINE Powder Boost at the roots for volume. Finally, warm a bit of Redken Water Wax 03 in your hands and rub through hair to get Pattinson’s slightly separated, texturized strands.

Justin Timberlake
Bad Teacher, June 17
Timberlake, who takes a comedic turn as a foul-mouthed seventh-grade teacher, wears his hair just long enough to show his natural waves. This sophisticated, rounded cut is “a great combination of casual and business,” O’Regan says. To groom, towel dry hair until it’s barely damp and brush it into shape. Then, for separation, thickening and lasting hold, rake TIGI Bed Head Manipulator through hair from front to back.

Russell Brand
Arthur, April 8
Brand portrays a bumbling playboy in the remake of a 1981 comedy. His offscreen style is long and artfully dishevelled. Brand’s look is best suited for guys with natural wave; the straight-haired will need to use a styling product to get some thickness and body. Ask your stylist for a cut just above the shoulders. To style, towel dry hair and add extra hold by working in Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam. Reinforce the waves by scrunching up individual sections as you blow dry.
Editor’s Tip
Check with your stylist to be sure the cut you want will work with your hair type.
