These ladies change their hair hues the way most of us change our clothes! Aura Friedman, Wella Professionals celebrity colorist, chooses her favorite shades.
SCARLETT JOHANSSON
Aura says: “With such a sophisticated style, you can pull off a unique color. That’s why Scarlett’s pink hair works for her.”
Aura says: “This combination of cool brown and warm blond looks beautiful with Jessica’s golden complexion.”
Change Safely
You want to switch shades but don’t want to fry your hair. Here’s how to minimize the harm.
1. Nearly every formula of hair dye will alter your strands to some degree. “But going drastically lighter can cause the most damage,” Friedman says. So never try to bleach your hair yourself; always see a salon pro. And instead of all-over blond, consider highlights, which add brightness with less trauma to your tresses.
2. “Darkening your hair actually gives it more shine and makes it look healthier,” Friedman says. If your hair is already color-processed—especially if you’re going from blond back to brown—a semi-permanent formula may be the only acceptable option; the longer-lasting choices can add insult to injury.
3. To try a truly daring hue like Johansson’s rosy streaks, go for temporary hair extensions. “They’re really cute!” Friedman says. Regis DESIGNLINE Platinum Clip-In Extensions are totally reusable and come in 12 colors—including, yes, pink. They lock on to your real hair like barrettes and won’t do a bit of harm.
