Dude, Your Hair Rocks: In honor of the Grammy Awards on February 13, we suggest a new category: Best Hair. We asked styling pros how to re-create these five artists’ hot looks.
Adam Levine
To achieve the Maroon 5 rocker’s look, ask your stylist to cut your hair very short at the sides and back, longer and extra-texturized on top. Work a dab of Redken Rewind 06 Pliable Styling Paste through wet or dry hair. As you do, scrunch and twist pieces at the top of your head to score an appropriately “unstyled” effect, says Redken for Men Consultant Jenny Balding.

Jay Sean
The British hip-hop artist gets serious style points for his “Caesar Fade,” so named because it’s buzzed longer on top, then gradually “fades” short around the hairline, says Regis Artistic Director Ron Kolosine. Keep the cut sharp with a trim every few weeks. To achieve a sculpted, polished look, work a bit of flake-free Regis DESIGNLINE Whipped Wax between palms and pat onto damp or dry hair.

Keith Urban
To go stylishly country, first ask for a “Raked Razor”—a choppy, texturized do with long razor-cut inner layers. The style is especially good for guys with medium-to-thick hair. “It’s a little ’80s but with a distinctly rock ’n’ roll feel,” says Kolosine. Next, finger-comb a dab of American Crew Forming Cream through dry hair. For a rumpled look, apply a little more of the product to the ends of your hair.

The Boss
Bruce Springsteen’s longer-on-top classic-rocker cut works well on every hair type. But it’s especially good for fine or thinning hair because it helps to create the illusion of thickness. Grooming is simple: Warm a dab of texturizer, such as Sebastian Microweb Fiber, between your palms, then work the softened product into random look tousled and “piece-y.”

Enrique Iglesias
The Latin pop star’s hair hits the sweet spot between shaggy and groomed. You’ll need to get a cut that’s finger-length all over and heavily texturized. When hair is damp or dry (experiment to see which gives you a better result), rake a bit of Redken Rough Paste 12 from back to front. Apply it all over, not just on the top layer, says Balding, to sections of hair to ensure your style doesn’t fall flat.
Editor’s Tip
Not sure what terms like “texturized” mean? Your stylist can decode them for you.
