Color
The panel color technique is all about sneaking pops of color into your everyday look. Here’s how it worked on our model, Irina: First, Regis Artistic Director Kat Carey sectioned out two three-inch sections, or panels, of hair on either side of Irina’s center part, just underneath the top layers. Since Irina was ready for a bold change, Carey colored one panel a coppery gold and the other dark cherry red. (She colored the rest of Irina’s hair a warm chocolate brown.) Now, depending on where Irina parts her hair, the copper and cherry can peek through a little or a lot. Not as daring? This technique works equally well with more natural-looking colors. And since the color is applied under the top layer of hair, there are no glaring grown-out roots to worry about. A touch-up every six to eight weeks keeps the look fresh.
Cut
Regis International Creative Director Gordon Nelson snipped Irina’s fine but plentiful shoulder-length hair into a chin-length pageboy bob that’s slightly longer in the back. Irina’s angled bangs can be worn several different ways: Straight across the forehead, pushed to the longer side for a soft look, or pushed to the shorter side for a quirky fringe.
“Panel color is never overwhelming. It’s always stunning.” –Gordon Nelson
Looks
For the slightly tousled style on the opposite page, Carey conditioned Irina’s hair with It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product, added hold by combing through a blend of Regis DESIGNLINE Silk Drops Repair & Shine Serum and Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Gel and blew hair dry, shaping it with a round brush. For the sleek style on this page, Carey then smoothed hair with a straightening iron, one section at a time.
