1/Play Hair
Styling Time: 15 Minutes
Regis Artistic Director Kat Carey combined dime-sized drops of Redken Fresh Curls Curl Refiner and Regis DESIGNLINE Silk Drops and combed the mixture through Rachelle’s damp hair. Carey used her hair dryer’s diffuser attachment and had Rachelle flip her hair upside down and side-to-side as she dried. (For less volume, let hair air-dry instead.) Carey’s tip: Don’t touch the hair until it’s completely dry. “Touching causes frizz,” she says.
2/Work Hair
Styling Time: 15 Minutes
Carey combed a mix of Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm and Regis DESIGNLINE Silk Drops (again, a dime-sized bit of each) through Rachelle’s damp locks. Next, she used a medium-size round brush with a blend of nylon and natural bristles to straighten Rachelle’s hair as she blew it dry. When Rachelle’s hair was almost dry, Carey switched to a round brush with natural bristles to add smoothness and polish.
3/Party Hair
Styling Time: 30 Minutes
Carey misted two-inch sections of dry hair with Redken Hot Sets 22, a thermal setting mist, before wrapping each section vertically around the barrel of a half-inch curling iron she held parallel to Rachelle’s head. For the hair in the back, Carey slipped each curl off the iron, twisted it a bit with her fingers and pinned it in an approximation of a chignon. For the pieces that frame the face, she curled the hair forward, then let the ringlets hang loose, using her fingers to gently place them where she wanted them. Instead of a pricey designer barrette, Carey used a sparkly earring-secured with a couple of hairpins-to decorate the finished style.
