Prabal Gurung’s Spring 2011 collection featured a modern mix of slim dresses and ultra bright gowns. Stylist Odile Gilbert whipped up what she referred to as a “neo-chignon” to match.
The elegant style, based on a sleek ponytail, was achieved by applying Moroccanoil Treatment from roots to ends. Next, hair was brushed flat, side-parted and pulled into a ponytail with a large section to the right of the part left loose. That hair was wrapped around the head and wound around the base of the ponytail to conceal the hair band. The length of the ponytail was fastened below its base with a barrette-like hair accessory before the final style as sprayed thoroughly with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for lasting hold.
According to Gilbert, “Prabal Gurung envisioned hair that combined modern and classic elements yet was completely unique. This look embodies all of this and highlights a modern design softened by sculptural, rounded lines. Part ponytail and part chignon, it’s pinned at the nape of the neck to hold its form, just as a chignon is. Each side of the look presents a different profile – one bold, simple and strong, the other soft and flowing. The hair itself is very sleek yet looks healthy and luminous. The final effect is very modern, and definitely very different.”
