On Friday, July 20, we headed to Milk Studios in New York City for the photo shoot for “The Look,” our regular feature about seasonal hair trends in The Hair Book magazine. Print magazines are put together months in advance, so this story will appear in the Holiday 2012 issue, which you’ll find in Regis Salons starting October 1. We don’t want to give too much away, but the photos look gorgeous, thanks to the talents of our models, Joe Slaughter and Michelle Hicks, who showcase sexy, festive his-and-hers styles.
For anyone wondering what a beauty/fashion photo shoot is like, you may be surprised to know that there is actually a lot of sitting around – and a lot of
food! (Of course, we were happy to arrive to a giant buffet, knowing we would not have to squeeze into any snug dresses.) The majority of the time on set is pretty slow-moving, as everyone waits for hair, makeup and wardrobe to get the models ready for the camera. Over the course of nine hours, Regis Senior Artistic Director Damon Footer styled Joe and Michelle’s hair four different ways for four different sets of shots, and each hairstyle had a different outfit to go with it.
But it’s high energy and excitement when the camera is clicking, the flash is flashing, the music is playing and photographer Guy Aroch is telling the models, “Beautiful!” and “Love it!” (Yep, photographers really do this. It’s not just something from Zoolander.)
We can’t wait for you to see the results from the shoot, and we’re sure you’re going to love the sparkle and glamour of Holiday 2012 issue. Check out more behind the scenes photos on Instagram at @TheHairBook. And if you’d like to see “The Look” from our current issue, Summer 2012, click here!
