One of our editors, Paige, tames her frizzy, confused hair for the perfect blow dry. Here’s how:
As a girl with naturally fine hair, I’ve employed many of the usual tricks for getting as much volume as possible: blow drying my hair upside down, curling my hair and back combing it. But I’ve never been big on using hair products, probably because I witnessed my sister go heavy on the hair gel to tame the frizz of awkward teenage years. I’ve always said I have “confused” hair. It’s wavy, sometimes curly, in the front and almost stick straight in the back, which makes no sense at all. So, in attempt to mimic a super sleek blow dry, I tried Redken aerate 08 bodifying cream-mousse ($17, Regis Salons). Let’s start off with the texture—it’s somewhere between a cream and a mousse (hence, its name) and, surprisingly, it’s not sticky or tacky. I used a small amount at first but, by the second or third time I used it, I was comfortable enough to use a bit more, knowing that my hair would never have that crunchy feel. Not only does it have amazing hold that keeps my style intact all day long, it adds just the right amount of volume and bounce while keeping my hair smooth and soft.
