Spotted this summer: Glowing polish in shades like silver, gold, bronze and pastels. Want to jump on summer’s metallic-mani (and pedi) trend? Here are some tips:

Stay tasteful: Metallic polish is cool in moderation. Keep your nails on the short side, and avoid scary-looking long, tinny claws. Since the nails themselves are glam, don’t overdo the jewelry.

Flatter your skintone: If you have a darker complexion, choose a warmer metallic like a bronze or gold. We like OPI Glitzerland ($8.50, Regis Salons). For paler skin, try a cool color such as silver–try OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous ($8.50, Regis Salons)–or a shimmery light blue.

Don’t mix metals: When you do wear rings or bracelets, keep them in the same color family – no mixing gold polish with silver jewelry. The same goes for metallic sandals!
