“What I like about the hair in New York is that it’s always all about what women will actually wear,” said Redken Creative Consultant Guido a few weeks ago as he was wrapping things up at New York Fashion Week. Case in point: These two styles he created for the Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein spring/summer 2012 shows.

At Ralph Lauren (above), the hair was a clean, simple and modern ponytail, achieved by applying guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam on damp hair and blowdrying for bounce. Then center-parting the hair, finger-combing it back into a ponytail a few inches above the nape of the neck and finishing it with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to smooth flyaways. “The look is easy sophistication. It’s very elegant but not forced,” said Guido of the finished style.

At Calvin Klein, the look was even more natural, and simple: Wet hair was sprayed with Nature’s Rescue Radiant Sea Spray and allowed to air dry to a natural finish (very straight strands were curled slightly with a 1-inch curling iron to create a slight bend in the hair). Said Guido, “This look is supposed to appear as if each girl was just wearing her hair naturally. It’s very Calvin Klein, it’s very beautiful, and we don’t see it very often; it’s refreshing.”
