Q. How can I keep the hair at my part from becoming frizzy after using a flat iron? Holly Wing; Gainesville, FL
A. Believe it or not, those pesky strays that pop up on your part may actually be breakage. This is not something to become alarmed by—it can happen to anyone who styles with heat. That’s why I always recommend using a thermal styler prior to blowdrying and flat ironing. Regis DESIGNLINE Cashmere Kera-Forte Fortifying Sealant, for example, can be applied to wet and/or dry hair before submitting it to heat styling to protect against breakage while imparting shine and fortifying the hair with amino acids. (Translation: It heals the hair from the inside out.) Once the damage is done, though, you can camouflage those tiny sprigs temporarily with a light pomade (best for thicker hair textures) or a dry wax (best for fine hair because it doesn’t leave a greasy finish). Just rub a pea size amount of either between your palms until it spreads evenly, then apply it with light, uniform strokes over your finished style.
