askastylist_suzannesawyer1Q. What is a glaze and what does it do for your hair? Tracy Rosset; Oakdale, MN

A. Every hair color company has their own definition of such terms, but generally speaking a glaze is a sheer, temporary color usually achieved via a demi-permanent or non ammonia-based product. Due to the lack of ammonia, glazes can’t really lighten or darken the hair so the resulting hue remains firmly within the natural range of your existing hair color. Instead, they add an allover warm or cool tone to the hair, creating a richer, more vibrant effect. What’s more, glazes deliver unparalleled shine and luster and, because they wash out gradually, don’t leave any tell-tale regrowth, so they require minimal upkeep.
