Q. I have been coloring my hair “soft black” for six months. I hate it but am afraid to throw anything else on it. I would like to go back to the blonde I was before. What can be done, if anything? Anonymous
A. This is a process the professionals call “color correction”. Although there are color remover kits sold to the general public, I don’t recommend trying this at home. Leave this job to a well -trained stylist who can give you the best advice possible when it comes to the health of your hair.
Removing a color as dark as black begins with a lightening process that usually involves hair bleach. Generally, dark colors can be lightened, in one day, to a medium to light brown. A second bleach process can be performed the same day, but only if the integrity of your hair (ie: its health) has not been compromised. Otherwise, your stylist will have you return to the salon in two to four weeks for a haircut and another lightening process. This entire service can be very pricey, so definitely sit down with your stylist to discuss the best options for your future hair color.

Has anyone else’s salon getting swamped with this type of situation? Mine is like crazy. I’m glad you posted this! This is exactly what we’re doing.
I have the opposite question. Is it possiable to dye your hair a natural shade of blonde when you’ve been a brunette your whole life???
It is possible to go from a brunette to blonde but it still can be a double process depending on the condition and color (natural or color treated) of your hair.
I dyed my hair blonde @ home (normally I go to a Salon. I normally dye my hair black, but after letting my natural brown grow out some, I dyed my hair blonde. Now I have the strawberry-blonde, orangish-brown color @ the ends. How much would it cost to do just that part verses the entire head?
@ Stacy: I’m a natural brunette. I recently dyed my hair blonde @ home. I had some remaining black @ the bottom (since I would always dye my hair black). I dyed my hair blonde after most of my natural hair color (brunette) grew out. So now my hair is nice and blonde, but once @ the bottom, it’s a strawberry-blonde, orangsih-brown color. So eventually I’m gonna have to go to a Salon and get that fixed…
I RECENTLY DYED MY HAIR BLACK FOR THE END OF THE WINTER. ITS NOW GOING ON SPRING TIME AND I WANT A LIGHTER COLOR LIKE A STRAWBERRY BLONDE. I HAVE SHOULDER BLADE LENGTH HAIR. HOW MUCH WOULD IT COST??
My hair was naturally dark reddish brown (I absolutely hated that color) and I always dreamed of becoming a platinum blonde. Today, I am a bleached blonde and proud of it!
I have always lightened my brunette hair color to a light-medium blonde using DYE only. My hair was bleached by a professional and now I have like 3 different colors as it grows back in. Had I realized she was bleaching it…It would not have happened. I understand that color does not lift color…..I dont want to lift it….I want to color color! How can I get the hair to be 1 color not 2-3 different colors? Thanks for any guidance you can give!
I just dyed my hair 2 different colors four weeks ago. one half of my hair is jet black (the top) and the other is magenta red (the bottom). I want to go blonde. Not completely just change the red to blonde and keep the black on top? Can anyone tell me if this possible?
