Q. Do birth control pills affect the way hair takes color? If yes, what can I do about that? Cynthia Chandler; Victoria, TX
A. I’m not aware of any color I have never done on a client that has been affected by the use of birth control pills. That said, the school of thought is everything ingested eventually shows up in the hair. Since I’m not a medical professional I wouldn’t begin to comment on which medications affect the hair or in what manner. I would recommend that if you think your birth control pills or other medications are affecting the end result of your hair color you 1) check in with your doctor to see if this is a side effect of your meds and 2) book a clarifying treatment prior to your color service. Malibu MakeOver does an amazing job of ridding the hair of impurities while improving its condition. The two-step salon service first removes mineral and most medication buildup on the hair, then infuses it with strengthening protein—all of which can help color take better.

Hi Vicki,
There is no data on the Januvia website that suggests any side affect that would impact your hair color.
