askastylist_mariaasherQ. I have a moderately large forehead and a slender face that I would love to fill out with a framing cut, but because I have not one but two widow’s peaks I can’t do any bangs or short layers. It also looks weird if I pull my hair straight back. What can a girl do with such an uneven hair line?

A. As with cowlicks, the best way to tame your widow’s peaks is with longer (and, therefore, heavier) hair. Face framing layers cut to fall somewhere between the lips and chin will likely be most flattering because, if necessary, the longer length will be easier to control with styling product. Speaking of product, strong hold gels (like my favorite, Sebastian Liquid Steel) are still your best bet. And a chemical service—like a perm or relaxer, depending on your hair’s texture—can offer an effective, though not permanent, fix.
