hero_215x25019The days of hair setting appointments may be well in the past, but my obsession with AMC’s Mad Men makes me an ardent fan of all classic coifs. So, I practically fell off my chair when I spied this set style, created by Redken Session Stylist John Ruidant to compliment designer Chris Benz’s Resort 2011 collection, shown last week in New York City. Benz’s collection was inspired by former First Lady Pat Nixon and Ruidant looked to the same muse in creating the voluminous do he dreamed up for the show. I’m inclined to attempt a similar style, but considering the look calls for an hour of prep—and the fact that I don’t have a White House “staff” at my disposal to help with the curling, pinning and teasing—I’ll probably just have to imagine how this hair might look on me. If you find yourself in the throws of a mid-century moment and want to give the style a go, here are the how-tos:
Step 1: Apply Redken Body Full Amplifier at the hairline for texture and blow dry in the product with a mason brush.
Step 2: Split the head in half starting at the name and continuing in sections about one inch thick spraying Hot Sets 22 Thermal Setting Mist on each piece before curling with a 1½ inch curling iron.
Step 3: Pin each curl to the head to set.
Step 4: Finish off the look by pulling hair back into a looped pony tail and secure ends by pinning under the nape of the neck to create a bob
Step 5: Tease the hair and apply Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray.
