hero_215x2509In keeping with this week’s gray trend (we’ve covered gray-beige nail polish and answered question about boosting shine in gray hair), I thought I’d take a look at Go Away Gray, a new pill recently launched to prevent graying hair. Taken twice daily, Go Away Gray promises to prevent graying hair and restore your hair’s natural color within as little as six weeks. The supplement’s star ingredient is Catalase, an enzyme produced in the body that breaks down the body’s natural production of hydrogen peroxide, a bleaching agent responsible for graying hair. Since Catalase production declines with age, the pill purports to maintain one’s levels so that graying hair can be kept at bay. Now, a pill that prevents gray hair sounds almost too good to be true to me, so I sent some info about it off to New York City dermatologist Francesca Fusco, MD and (surprise!) she agreed! While Dr. Fusco’s research did reveal some studies showing a lack or reduction of enzymes, including Catalase, leading to graying, there’s—surprise, again!—little data that supports the idea that oral Catalase can prevent or revert the graying process. All this to say, a professional stylist is still the best person to consult with when dealing with graying hair.
