It was only a matter of time before Mad Men was honored with a Barbie collection, and here it is: four dolls done up in the likenesses of Don, Betty, Joan and Roger. I, personally, wish the faces of the dolls looked less Barbie and Ken and more like the character they purport to be (why they can’t simply superimpose a photographic image of each actor onto the face of the doll is beyond me). And, I would have liked each doll’s custom outfit to have been some scaled down version of a designer fashion of the time. But, I think the hair is pretty good. Barbie designer (and Project Runway alum!) Robert Best twisted Joan’s red mane into an intricate updo, not unlike one she might actually wear to work at “Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce” and Betty’s blonde bob is appropriately Grace Kelly-esque, with nary a hair out of place. Equal attention was paid to the men’s hair. It’s neatly slicked, per the style of the 60s, and “Don” sports a slight 5 o’clock shadow to boot. If you’re mad for Mad Men, I expect this Barbie collection won’t disappoint.
