What’s the newest addition to the style file? “Scene” cuts: A post-Emo, music-based look that’s exactly what my youngest clients, aged 14-17, want now. The look is slightly reminiscent of Bowie circa 1967, but this time around bands like Against Me and Bright Eyes provide the artistic inspiration. While the style is rooted in Emo (smooth hair, side-swept bangs, etc.) it raises the bar with drastically disconnected layers and permanent hair color in a range of rainbow hues (including the always popular jet black and white blonde). Scene is the current the epitome of cutting edge. The kids who wear it know what they want: Shapes from another planet but, still, technically perfect. But don’t even consider a Scene cut if you’re over 18 or (heaven forbid!) 20. By then, according to the kids, you’re expected to act your age!
