My fine, wavy hair has a mind of its own, especially when it comes into contact with humidity of any degree. So, with spring officially five weeks away, I’ve decided to start growing out my bangs. There’s no way they’ll stay put (by which I mean on my forehead) through the summer, so this routine—cut bangs in the fall, enjoy them through the holiday season, grow them out for summer—seems like the best option. To see me through the inevitable awkward growing out phase, I’m collecting a small cadre of essential hair accessories. My first purchase: Ricky’s InvisiPins (www.rickysnyc.com). These nifty, mini bobby pins hold my hair neatly in place and their matte finish looks fresher than the traditional shiny black versions. What’s more, they come in four hair color shade groups: blacks, browns, blondes and redheads, so I can match them to my hair color, or not, depending on my mood (and outfit). Best of all, at $2.99 for 30, they’re an inexpensive, yet still stylish, way to keep my hair in control while it grows—and, I expect, long after, too.
