Designer Cynthia Rowley infused classic, feminine wardrobe elements, like the dress and the elbow glove, with a modern, tough girl vibe in her Fall 2010 collection, shown last Friday. Backstage, Wella colorist Eva Scrivo and stylist Alain Pichon teamed up to create an appropriately edgy hair look fashioned from a natural, textured ponytail accented with blatantly artificial, rainbow-colored hair extensions. The key to the quirky look was the custom colored extensions that Scrivo and her team dyed to match the rich, artificial jewel tones (emerald, amethyst, lapis, bright turquoise and navy) of Rowley’s collection. For the ponytails, Pichon first prepped hair with Wella System Professional Ultimation hairspray for added texture, hold and shine. Next, working in sections, he used a combination of curling and crimping irons to give the hair a haphazard wave. He secured the crimped and colored extensions into the hair before pulling it all back into a soft ponytail at the nape of the neck. The finished styles featured naturally flowing strands that allowed the streaks of color to show through for added dimension.
