Q. How can I give my natural waves more curl and bounce? Elizabeth Jahnsen; Cape Girardeau, MO

A. All curls are not created equal, but all curl advice remains the same. First, start your curl care in the shower. For fine hair textures, use a volumizing shampoo/conditioner combo. They offer weightless conditioning and detangling. Paul Mitchell’s Extra-Body Daily Shampoo and Daily Rinse are excellent for plumping limp strands. For thicker (and drier) hair textures, keep curls hydrated with Paul Mitchell’s Instant Moisture Daily Shampoo and Daily Treatment. Frizzy, lifeless strands and unruly manes are usually caused by a lack of moisture or the use of the wrong styling product. After cleansing, gently blot wet hair with a towel but try not to rough it up in the process; this just leads to frizz. Apply a curl cream, like Paul Mitchell’s Cream Gel (it envelopes strands to prevent dryness while leaving it soft and shiny, not crunchy) and allow hair to air dry. To create more volume, set your blowdryer to a low speed and add a diffuser attachment. Avoid combing or brushing the hair as it dries. For a body boost between shampoos, just scrunch more styling cream in dry hair, from the ends up, and—voilà!—fresh curls, fast!
