If you’re prone to winter-dry skin, you probably do what most of us do: apply lotion liberally. Unfortunately, that tactic doesn’t work as well for hair—unless you happen to be a fan of the greaser look. In fact, the best way to offset a dry scalp is in the shower. You see, dry environments cause the scalp to produce less oil and that can result in unsightly flakes and itchiness. But sudsing up with a shampoo and conditioner packed with natural antioxidants (like tea tree oil which is loaded with free-radical scavenging Vitamins A, C and E) will clean hair while stimulating oil production and nourishing your strands. My faves right now are Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Special Shampoo and Conditioner, an invigorating cleansing and conditioning duo that leave locks fresh, shiny and super-manageable. If your strands are color-treated and fading is a concern, look for products that contain grapefruit, kiwi or peppermint extract instead. All work similarly to tea tree oil, but won’t strip that pricy color from your hair.

This is great advice. One question; Should you use the same shampoo and conditioner all year long or should you use different shampoo and conditioners based on the seasons?
Definetly use a shampoo and conditioner that is gonna work best for your hair right now. If you generally have an oily scalp try a Normalizing shampoo and a light conditioner. If it’s more on the dry side switch it up. Don’t forget, seasons AND age can effect the way our skin, scalp and hair react.
I just noticed dandruff in my hair and am so glad you posted. Switching to teatree shampoo till this winter is over. thanks!
